Stop a Federal Tax on Safer Nicotine Products! |
|
Dear Member, A crippling new federal tax on safer nicotine products and low-risk alternatives to smoking is being proposed as part of the funding bill for President Biden's "Build Back Better" plan. This tax would severely limit Americans' access to safer alternatives and would only punish people who are trying to quit smoking by making all nicotine and smoke-free tobacco products unaffordable. Below is a table showing the devastating effects of this proposed tax on nicotine (TFN, synthetic, and tobacco-derrived), and how it would affect bottled e-liquids. These figures are just the extra taxes you'll be paying and don't include the cost of the e-liquid. |

Politico reported this morning that some Republicans, and even a few Democrats, are hesitant about (or completely against) including this tax in the spending bill because the tax would primarily affect Americans making under $200,000 a year and minority groups. President Biden promised Americans, as recently as this week, that he'd never approve a tax on people making under $400,000 a year and this new tax would break that promise. We must take advantage of this opportunity and tell our members of Congress that these concerns are valid, and that we strongly oppose this tax – and they should too. |
